DU-itt is a reality-based program where teens participate in a simulated Driving Under the Influence trial.
Teens actually participate in the trial process by acting as the "jurors" in the DUI trial. The trial is conducted in front of approximately 100 fellow students.
DU-itt is based on an existing program created in Henderson, Nevada. All participants in DU-itt are real; Riverside County Superior Court judge, District Attorney, Public Defender, law enforcement officer and court personnel. The trial is based on a real court case. The only "actor" in the program is the defendant.
Short presentations are given after trial conclusion. Speakers can be MADD and insurance company representatives. These speakers add additional dimension to the program by providing the financial and emotional impact of the consequences of teen impaired driving. |
