1.  IPS has received funding from First 5 Riverside to implement a countywide Child Safety Education Program (CSEP). The program's goal is to prevent childhood injuries and deaths to children ages 0 through five years of age in Riverside County. The program focuses on four areas of injury prevention; Child Passenger Safety, Child Passenger Safety for Children with Special Needs, Water Safety and Home Safey. Program activities include providing educational training to both parent and care/givers of children and professionals who provide services to families with children in this age group. The program also provides the opportunity for parents to puchase car seats for a reduced cost, receive home safety supplies,education materials and community resources. The program activities empower parents and care givers of small children to create a safe and nuturing enviroment for their children to learn, play and grow.

The Riverside County, Community Health Agency has received funding from the State of California, Office of Traffic Safety to collaborate with Riverside County Regional Medical Center (RCRMC) to establish a hospital based child passenger safety program which includes offering low cost car seat education classes to families. Injury Prevention Services (IPS) will train RCRMC staff to distribute car seats to children with special needs. It will be the only program of its kind in Southern California. IPS will partner with the Riverside County Sheriffs Department and schools to establish pedestrian safety activities such as a Student Valet program and Walk Your Child to School events. IPS will also coordinate Bicycle Helmet Safety Days to promote, educate and distribute bicycle safety information to youth. Contract period: 10/1/07 - 9/30/09 $301,344
